A Remarkable Year

By December 17, 2014No Comments

Friends and Supporters,

None of us want to return to the time when local government was ignored, unaccountable, and often ineffective.

Fortunately, since 2007 Court Watch NOLA’s vigilance has made New Orleans’ criminal courts more timely, professional, and efficient. The courtroom presence of CWN’s dedicated volunteers forces judges to start court on time, encourages professionalism, and saves taxpayers time and money by significantly reducing courthouse delays. These are factors that help ensure a transparent and fair system for everyone — victims, witnesses, defendants, family members, testifying police officers, and jurors.

Court Watch NOLA is the only organization doing this data collection and reporting work in New Orleans, and it is only possible with the support of people like you — people who care about our city and making local government more effective.

2014 has been a remarkable year for Court Watch NOLA. By the end of this month, over 100 senior, community and student volunteers will have observed over 1000 mornings of court in 2014. CWN compiled their observations into two groundbreaking reports, which showed that while Criminal District Court is becoming more efficient, it needs to focus on making the courthouse more user-friendly for the hundreds of New Orleanians who visit Tulane and Broad every day. And hundreds more accessed CWN’s online data and resources or attended our candidates forum in order to educate themselves before voting in this fall’s judicial elections.

With your contribution, Court Watch NOLA can continue to advance its reform and education efforts into 2015 and beyond. As a 501 (c)(3) organization, all donations are 100% tax-deductible. You may make your contribution by sending a check to P.O. Box 750633, New Orleans, LA 70175, or through our website, www.courtwatchnola.org.

And if you plan on shopping on Amazon this holiday season, use this link and the Amazon Smile Foundation will donate a percentage of all purchases you make to Court Watch NOLA. No games, no gimmicks, same prices. We need your support, and you need to buy presents – it’s a win-win!

So I urge you to show your support for making our government more efficient, transparent and accountable today. Working together we can make the difference!

Best regards and happy holidays,

Brad Cousins, Executive Director
